PEACHTREE CITY, GA - World Airways, Inc. today announced that it
had successfully flown eight White Rhinos from South Africa to Orlando,
Florida, and Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas, under a contract with Global
Animal Transport on behalf of the World Wildlife Foundation.
There are five species of rhinoceros remaining in the world, with
the White Rhino being the most endangered. There were five females
and three males in the shipment that are ultimately destined to
be delivered to the Busch Gardens Zoo in Tampa, Florida, and the
Dallas/Ft. Worth Zoo in Texas. World Airways worked with Global
Animal Transport to support the World Wildlife Foundation's project
to breed animals and expand the gene pools of captive animal populations,
with the ultimate goal of returning the animals back to their natural
habitat in the wild. Zoos all over the world are combining their
resources to promote the captive breeding of endangered species
like the White Rhino.
